If I go to schood for a private invesigators license, will I have to work under somebody else for awhile?

I want to go to school to be a private invesigator. After I graduate, will I be required to work under another private investigator or will I be able to work on my own to get started?

It differs from state to state. In Oregon, to be certified as a Private Investigator, you must have 1500 hrs of related coursework, submit the paperwork, etc, and if you pass all of that and the background, you can be licensed. If you don’t have the related coursework, you can get a Provisional PI License, and later upgrade to a regular one after the experience is gathered. In Oregon there is very little difference between the two licenses. The main difference is as a Provisional, you cannot hire other employees to work under you, nor can you sign a temporary for them.
